In the American Quimbanda religious tradition "Knowing Thyself" is perhaps one of the most important aspects of an individual's successful spiritual development. "Knowing Thyself" and the importance of having good character and integrity are key elements to achieving success in this lifetime. By mastering and incorporating these key elements into your life you will be able to achieve all of your desires without limitation. The spiritual concept of good character and integrity are the sacred keys of "Exu" the cosmic universal energy of change and transformation. This "Exu" energy  assists mankind with the ability to be able to unlock the doors to our unconscious mind into the conscious mind to be able to have success in this life. It is very important to remember, that it is isn't important how others define your character or integrity. What is important is how you define yourself within the meaning of life and within your inner self. By implementing the spiritual concepts of good character and integrity into your life, you will be able to free your minds of negative thought patterns and break the fetters around your mind, which only has meaning because you alone have allowed others to define you and did not take responsibility to define yourself. You alone have the power to do this because Nzambi gave each and everyone us freedom of choice. This concept of freedom of choice is the greatest gift that Nzambi bestowed upon mankind. The freedom to decide our own destiny and how we define our personal and spiritual self also includes the concepts of good character and integrity. The crossroads of these spiritual concepts is called freedom of choice, where the Spirit Exu meets each of us as we begin a new day. You alone have the power to change your destiny by implementing these very important spiritual concepts that Nzambi placed inside of each and every one of us. Take responsibility for your choices and make a change. In the Spiritual Practice of American Quimbanda there is no such thing as right or wrong choices, only consequences for our choices.

In the Spiritual Practice of American Quimbanda it is important that the individual initiate become aware of really who they are by "knowing Thyself" before performing any magical rituals and ceremonies. By "Knowing Thyself" you will then become aware of how good it feels to be walking in the presence of the "divine light" of your "True Self." Before you begin your spiritual walk, it is important that you completely understand this concept if you want to see your spiritual requests manifest on the physical plane and into existence. By "Knowing Thyself" there is nothing that you will not be able to accomplish because all magical requests will be done when you are in "perfect balance" and in "perfect harmony" with your "True Self".

Knowing how to turn your passion and personal bliss into a paycheck (and a handsome one at that!) is a secret to a happy life ... and helps you in the real world make great decisions about where to go to school, what to study, the kind of training or degree you need to be successful, and the profession you want to pursue.

 

Step Five: Answer Life's Four Questions

The four questions help you dig deeper into the mystery of who you are and what you are doing here. The answers and insights you get about who you really are can illuminate your life and help you make sense of the life you are living.

Step Six: Review Your Life Using The Insights You've Gained

The first five steps help you know more about yourself - what makes you unique and what makes you tick. Now is the time to use these answers and insights to examine your life up to now and understand the events and choices of your life. Often, it takes time to provide perspective on a life ... but what that time really turns out to be is life experience that is turned into knowledge about the world, yourself and others ... so you can start to make sense of your life. Applying that knowledge to examine your life and understand it brings clarity, peace and serenity.

You are the only one who can understand from the inside who you are, what your life has been like and what it could become. Everyone else, regardless of what they say, is really guessing at who you really are -- even if they are good at guessing and right on the money!

No one else will have the in-sights you do, because they are standing on the outside, watching from a few feet away ... and it is easy to miss big stuff if they are not able to experience along with you what takes your breath away ... what stirs your blood ... what makes you wake up laughing in the middle of the night ... what makes you groan and roll over to avoid getting up and facing the day.

So if you want to know more about thyself ... go find a mirror. Staring back will be the one person who is qualified to do the work. This is one job you cannot delegate, sub out or shanghai someone else into doing for you.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE AMERICAN QUIMBANDA RELIGIOUS TRADITION & AMERICAN QUIMBANDA SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONERS..

Monotheism is the belief in the existence of one Supreme God. Religious initiates of the Quimbanda religion refer to Him as Nzambi or Nzambi Mpungu, "Almighty God of the Great Celestial Mysteries and the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth". In the Quimbanda religious tradition, God is also referred to as Nzambi Ntoto. In the religious context of our religious theology, the word Nzambi Ntoto means "God Who touched and walked the Earth". The religious initiates of Quimbanda also refer to God as Ndala Karitanga (God who created Himself) and Sa Kalunga (Lord Endless, Infinite and Supreme God), after having created the world and everything in it. Although many religious practitioners of Quimbanda would consider its religious philosophy as monotheistic, there are many elements of pantheism which have been incorporated within the confines of the belief of one true God. Pantheism is the view that the Universe (Nature) and God are identical and that the essence of God is found within the Cosmos as an all encompassing unity and the sacredness of Nature. There has been in recent years much debate and confusion about the Quimbanda religion as being polytheistic, but it is not. It is difficult to delineate from notions such as pantheism and monotheism. The confusion comes from the lack of understanding between the concepts of the term “worship” and the term “veneration.” Worship is an act of religious devotion usually directed to one or more deities. Veneration is a special act of honoring a saint: a dead person who has been identified as singular in the traditions of the religion. In the world of Quimbanda, we worship God and venerate the deities or spirits (Nkisi). Catholics venerate the angelic spiritual beings called angels. Catholics also venerate the saints, (among them Mary), as human beings who had remarkable qualities, lived their faith in God to the extreme and are believed to be capable of interceding in the process of salvation for others; however, Catholics do not worship them as gods. There are other examples of monotheistic religions such as Christianity which embrace the concepts of a plurality of the divine; for example, the Trinity, in which God is one being in three eternal persons (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit). Additionally, most Christian churches teach Jesus to be two natures (divine and human), each possessing the full attributes of that nature, without mixture or intermingling of those attributes. Although there can be found in the African continent as well as many other places of the world the belief in polytheistic religious beliefs and practices, the concept of monotheism in the ancient African continent has existed for over 8500 years and its concept is not new. The practice of monotheism in Africa predates the birth of Christianity. Most of the fear and misunderstanding about the Quimbanda and Candomble religious traditions come from individuals who have a lack of understanding about the religious philosophy of African cultures and their sacred traditions. Although we often define those spiritual entities venerated and associated with the Quimbanda religious tradition as deities or spirits, they are not. The word deity and the word spirit for those practicing traditional Quimbanda at the American Candomble Church simply means and refers to an elevated spiritual being (Holy One) which can be petitioned to intercede on our behalf directly to Nzambi (God) and assist us in the process of the spiritual elevation and the evolution of our soul. These deities or spirits are also referred to as angelic beings. The word “spiritual being” can be defined as an incorporeal being believed to have powers to affect the course of human events. The word incorporeal means “having no material body or form”. The word “angelic being” can be defined as a benevolent celestial being that acts as an intermediary between Heaven and Earth. This concept is the same as the veneration of the angels and the Saints by Roman Catholics. There is only one true God in the Quimbanda religious philosophy and we call him Nzambi, the "Father and Creator of the Heavens and the Earth", the "Creator of all that is “Seen” and “Unseen".

 The Afro-Brazilian religion of Quimbanda is a “mystery religion” or “gnostic religious tradition”. A mystery religion is any religion with an arcanum, or secret wisdom. In a mystery religion, an inner core of beliefs, practices, and the religion's true nature, are revealed only to those who have been initiated into its secrets.

What is Gnostic Quimbanda?

The Afro-Brazilian Gnostic Quimbanda religious tradition is a monotheistic "Christian Mystic" system of belief. Monotheism is the belief in "One Supreme God", and a "Christian Mystic" system of belief is a spiritual system which embraces "Jesus Christ", and utilizes the Christ energies in order to manifest our "Divine Will". Initiates of the Afro-Brazilian Gnostic Quimbanda religious tradition refer to God as "Nzambi", or "Nzambi Mpungu". God is also referred to as Nzambi Ntoto which means “The God, Who became man and Who touched and walked the Earth” who is "Jesus Christ".
